Ancestors

Ancestor Scholars Program

We believe that our local community—and America as a whole—is stronger and more resilient due to the diversity of backgrounds and experiences of those who have come to us from around the world.

Whether our ancestors came here recently or arrived in the U.S. centuries ago, and whether they fled adversity or sought opportunity for themselves and their families, we share their stories here to honor their memories and, perhaps, to inspire others’ futures.

Donations made in honor of these ancestors will be used to fund student scholarships, as well as textbooks and classroom supplies.

Would you like to honor the memory of a loved one? Contact Phillip Carlisle at pcarlisle@washingtonenglish.org with the text and photograph(s) you would like included. WEC will create a memorial page with a unique link that can be shared with family and friends (or, for example, that can be included in the "in lieu of flowers" section of an obituary).
